I am Alison, the sewing mama of AhMay Designs. AhMay means "mother" in Burmese. My husband is from Burma, and we are using this name to celebrate motherhood and our Burmese culture.
I have two small children that keep me very busy. I’ve been sewing since childhood, but really advanced my skills when my son was a baby 5 years ago. I started with sewing diaper bags and cloth diapers. I had a short-term WAHM business in the first WAHM congo “Tuesday Bear” where I sold wetbag sets for cloth diapers. Soon after beginning the venture I became pregnant with my second child and put my WAHM aspirations on hold. About 6 months after she was born, I started up AhMay Designs again! I designed a unique wool pants pattern which included a built in diaper cover to provide two layers of wool around the diaper. I designed the pants to have a large rear panel to provide a large area for embroidery. AhMay Designs has been offering these original wool pants and wool shorts outfits since January 2006. It has been an incredible experience providing a product that my customers love. I really enjoy matching up wool colors with fabrics and finding matching embroidery designs to complete the set. While the products I make are labor-intensive, I feel the end result is worth the time, energy and cost involved. I have many customers who agree! Hopefully you will too.
